A Landmark of Beethoven’s Middle Period
Join us for an intimate chamber-music evening as we continue our journey through the complete Beethoven quartets. In this concert, we turn to String Quartet Op. 59 No. 1, the first of the “Razumovsky” quartets and one of the defining works of Beethoven’s heroic middle period.
This is music that feels larger than life. Across four movements, Beethoven creates a dramatic world of bold contrasts — moments of intense emotion, deep sorrow, unexpected humour, and a finale that seems to burst forward with energy and determination. The quartet has long been seen as a turning point in Beethoven’s writing: the moment where he pushes the string quartet into new emotional and structural territory.
