Welcome, and thank you for joining us for the opening of our new season. Over the coming months, we are excited to take you on a journey through the intimacy and emotional depth of some truly great chamber music.
This season, we continue our Beethoven String Quartet Project with one of his most monumental works: the first Razumovsky Quartet — a piece that transformed the string quartet and marks a further step in Beethoven’s exploration of how music can express deeper and more complex human emotions. In April, we devote an entire evening to the piano music of Chopin, whose works combine poetic intimacy with moments of dazzling virtuosity. Our season concludes with the second Razumovsky Quartet, one of Beethoven’s most dramatic and emotionally charged chamber works. We hope you will join us throughout the season as we explore this extraordinary repertoire up close.
Tonight’s programme draws us into the intimate world of song, where music and poetry come together to explore the inner depths of human emotion. This collection of English songs, French mélodies, and German Lieder explores themes of nature, love, longing, and reflection, each expressed through its own distinctive musical language. Some of these works unfold with deceptive simplicity, while others open into richer, more searching sound worlds that stretch the expressive limits of voice and piano. Together, they form a programme of subtle contrasts and emotional depth.
